I am planning to buy a new handset. Sadly, there are not many NEW business phones (with physical buttons and large screen) available in the market. So amongst the available choices, the new Nokia e6 phone which is touch and type phone with Symbian Anna OS seems the best option. I checked it out and the phone is pretty decent. However, the fact that Nokia has decided to abandon its Symbian platform makes me think twice. Problem #1: Will the OS software get regularly updated / provided support for minimum 2-3 years? You see, today when all the user software are getting regularly updated, it is important that your device OS should be compatible with the latest version. However, will Nokia provide support and updates for its OS Symbian^3 or Anna or Belle after a few months? Also, will the quality of the service / patches / updates will be good enough in today’s environment is another question. However, the post set me thinking as to what are the issues that we Indians are thinking and talking on. And more importantly how relevant or useful they are when viewed from the global standpoint. Every Indian (except netas) are deeply disappointed as the talks failed today between Anna’s team and the government. We all kept refreshing the news websites all day in hope of the announcement of the government accepting the demands of Indian citizens to present the Jan Lokpal Bill. More importantly, I wanted Shri Anna Hazare to break his fast. The country needs patriots like him. But all hopes of an early reconciliation were lost. The arrogant politicians, irrespective of parties, have taken the side of the government to ensure that a law putting a check on their misconduct is not passed in India. I guess that during the night they must have agreed that putting such a strong anti corruption bill will result in putting an end to their own corrupt money sources. The fight for Jan lokpal bill seems to be going in its final ground. Both Govt. and team Anna is huddled in meetings and discussions. The pressure in intense on the beleaguered Congress as the 74 year old crusader’s health is now deteriorating. God forbid, if anything happens to him, there may be a mass movement which will surely eclipse all the world has seen in recent past. On behalf of one billion Indians, I hope & wish Anna Hazare stays healthy, and the leaders at the top of the political system in India show they are as committed to rooting and fighting corruption as their stature has so far lead us to believe by taking firm and decisive steps. The arrest of Anna Hazare is arresting the freedom of expression of an Indian citizen. The inflation battered, corruption infested and continually lying Congress government is on its last legs. On the next day of Independence Day, they have given a new direction and enemy to the youth of this country. Surprisingly, when the whole nation is behind Anna Hazare, the BJP is deafeningly silent making one realize that in the heart of hearts, all the netas are quaking in their shoes that if a strong Jan Lokpal bill is made a law, their days of wanton loot and plunder will be over. By being silent and aloof, the BJP is also giving out the signal that it too is a party of corrupt who are only waiting for their turn to loot the one billion people of India. Propping up leaders/ issues to divert attention from the main topic is an old gambit of the congress party. Maybe the initial bonhomie and the later hard treatment of the Baba Ramdev by them was all a clever ploy to divert the attention of a till now united middle class from the Anna Hazare led Lokpal Bill agitation.
