The book I have been searching for 10 years

Book Name: I was a Drug Addict
by Ravindra Singh

This is a book I read in the summer of 2001, more than 10 years back. I couldn’t buy it then, but have been searching to buy it since then. This should tell you something about the book.

IWADA is the autobiographical tale of one Ravindra Singh, a boy born into an affluent middle class set against the background of the Hippie and the drug culture of India of the ‘80s.

The writing style is fast paced and brutally honest, as first time writers tend to be. The narrative quickly recounts the author’s decent into the bottomless pit of drug addiction and his attempts to crawl back to rid himself of the addiction and regain his life. Tragically, he fails and dies at the young age of 21. The final chapter has been written by his father.

Both touching and realistic to the core, the story explores the fall of a young boy, smart, well educated and rich squander everything to his addiction.

Since the style is not preachy, I believe young people of today will be able to relate to Ravinder of 1980s and understand why saying NO to drugs is important the first time and every time.
